Thanks for the update on Sharon. I'm glad to hear that she is doing better.
This is a busy time for Ed and me. We recently bought a home in Arizona and are preparing to move there permanently in a couple of weeks. You can imagine what a chore this is after living in this house for 33 years. Every nook and cranny is filled with "stuff". The thrift store people smile broadly when they see us drive up. I told Ed if I lived my life over I'd move every ten years. Our eldest daughter will be living about ten miles from our new home. The hardest part about moving is leaving behind our grandchildren. But its only a two and a half hour flight from Phoenix to Seattle. The new home is in Queen Creek, which is about 40 miles SE of Phoenix. If you're familiar with the area, it bumps up to Chandler and Gilbert. We will miss the Pacific Northwest and our wonderful little desert community with the Columbia River in our back yard, but are looking forward to new adventures and sights in Arizona. My e-mail address will remain the same for the time being and my cell phone is 509-554-6120. Please keep in touch. I would love hearing from any of you and if you're in Arizona, please visit. The welcome mat is in place.
Our new address is:
27774 N. Amira Way
Queen Creek, AZ 85243
Virginia Kuduk McDevitt asked Bill Chavez if Sharon was in a position to receive emails. Bill checked with Phil Avellar and received this report:
"Sharon is not in a position to receive emails, however she is doing much better. I talked to her son David at the gym the other day and he took her to her home in Costa Rica for a few days. She now has a person who comes in and takes her for walks and to the store, etc."
Sally Avellar advises that Sharon Doucette Graham suffered a stroke in Costa Rica and that her son made arrangements for her return to Napa. She is resting comfortably and making slow progress. Your prayers are requested for her speedy recovery.
Thanks for the outpouring of support I received after the death of my sister, Charlotte. Several classmates attended her funeral and many of you sent condolences. Thanks to all of you!
Al Cattalini's sister, Charlotte, SVHS '60, passed away on Sunday after a battle with cancer. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent Ferrer Church. Click for death notice.

As I reported earlier, Fr. Knapp is having a retirement Mass and Reception at St. Isabella's in San Rafael on Sunday, June 8 at 11:00 A.M. As a surprise, Pattie and I are flying Sister Constance from Los Angeles to attend. Fr. Knapp has no idea this has been planned. St. Isabella Church is at 1 Trinity Way in San Rafael, off Highway 101 and Freitas Parkway. Click for Google Map.

Retirement Celebration- Fr. Knapp
Save the Date: June 8, 11:00 A.M. Mass - St. Isabella's, Terra Linda, CA
Come join the Celebration of Mass and Reception for his "Retirement" and sixty years of service as a priest for Fr. William Knapp.
Fr. Leo LaBelle received the Bishop Alemany Award on April 23, 2008 at Stanford University. The award recognizes Roman Catholics who have distinguished themselves by exemplary service to the Church and is awarded annually.
Congratulations, Fr. Leo
Pat says hi and advises her new email address is islandbreeze3@cox.net.
Father Knapp is celebrating his sixty years as a priest and remembers fondly his first assignment as Assistant Pastor in Vallejo in the late 1940's. Those of us who attended St. Basil's remember him as a kind and holy person. He said Mass at our 50th Reunion. Recently, he had a terrible fall and shattered his right elbow amongst other injuries. My wife Pattie and I visited with him yesterday and although in a wheel chair, he was chipper as always.
He is now fully retired and living at:
Nazareth House
245 Nova Albion Way
San Rafael, CA 94903
Direct Line 415-472-2606
Office 415-479-8282
His brother, who is also a priest, is also living at the same retirement home.
Please keep him in your prayers and feel free to call him and/or send him a card.
Bill Chavez
Thanks Al, for keeping us all informed about our classmates. I was sorry to miss Leo at our reunion and was unable to make the trip for his induction into the Hall of Fame.
All is well here in Washington state. In January we were happy to welcome our second grandson. He was born on January 18th and weight a hefty 8 1/2 pounds. He makes a total of 3 living (1 deceased) grandchildren for us. What a blessing they are.
Keep in touch. I love hearing about everyone.
Thanks, Virginia (Dolly) Kuduk McDevitt

In looking at the picture from Leo's induction into the SPSV Hall of Fame, it looks like Bill Chavez would move to the front of the line, in front of Bob Moelk, if Mother Constance made us line up by height.......What happened — Bob always was the first in line......Terry #3
Pattie Chavez sent this photo of classmates celebrating Father Leo's induction into the SPSV Hall of Fame on October 6, 2007.
And here's a photo of your classmates on their September 2007 Alaska cruise.
Most of you may have received the announcement for Fr. Leo's induction into St. Vincent's Hall of Fame. The induction and dinner will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 with Mass at 5 PM, No host social 6 PM with dinner at 7 PM. I would like to have a few tables reserved for the Class of 1957 in support of Leo so would you please email me if you are attending? I will then request Rich Curtola to reserve whatever number of tables required.
Thanks,
Bill
Billy....great reminder. I have already reserved a table for my family to attend and as I told you earlier I am really proud of Leo being inducted into the Hall of Fame, but am also attending due to Little Richards induction also, so remember to keep some of your applause for my little brother.(He idolized you guys, but then he was only 6 years old at that time.) I look forward to seeing all of you there that evening. By the way Tom Hannigan is also going to be attending, as they will be honoring the Class of 58 that evening I am told...But the Class of 57 will still rule....See you then.....Terry

Here’s a financial accounting of our 50th Reunion provided by Bill Chavez.
We started with $1,530 in our account (accumulated from the proceeds of earlier reunions).
INCOME
We took in $5,939, broken down as follows:
Reunion dinner reservations (66 x $75) $4,950
Breakfast payments (32 x $15) $480
Bob Moelk’s raffle $364
Contributions from classmates $145
EXPENSES
We spent $7,217, broken down as follows:
Eagle Vines dinner $5,600
Courtyard Hotel breakfast $615
Dinner decorations $74
Hotel – Father Knapp $144
Hotel and Airfare – Sister Constance $343
Supplies (brochures, paper, envelopes, yearbooks, postage, etc.) $441
Having spent $1,278 more than we took in, our bank account now has a balance of $252. This money will be used to organize our next reunion.
COMMENTS
1. We hosted Father Knapp, Sisters Constance, Marion (Bonaventure), Katherine (Luke), Ramona (Fran Krishna), Anne (Martha Bertain), and Mr. and Mrs. Al Endriss for dinner and Father Knapp and Sister Constance for breakfast.
2. We had 9 no-shows at breakfast (41 committed and 32 showed). This cost us $135.
3. The financial report was audited by a committee consisting of Phil Avellar, Bob Moelk, Claudia Moelk, and Al Cattalini. Classmates desiring additional information should contact Bill Chavez.
4. Contributions to rebuild our meager bank account are most welcome. Send them to Bill Chavez, 214 Brayton Loop, Yuba City, CA 95993-5905
We just heard today that Jean's brother (Bob Greggins) passed away in the past day or so after a short battle with lung cancer—thought you'd want to know.
.....I just love reading all of the items about the Class of 57 and looking at the pictures from the Reunion and the breakfast the next day. Even though Jolyn and I could not attend all of the events, I really enjoyed being able to spend the time we had with each of you. I also wanted to mention that besides our illustrious Student Body President being inducted into the St.Pats-St.Vincents Hall of Fame this year, my "little baby brother" Richard is also going in on the same evening. I know most of you think of him as the Director of St.Patricks-St. Vincents Board of Regents, who is constantly asking each of us for money, but he has also made our Alumni Association one of the best in the Country, using the words of Gary Anderson at the reunion last week, that Rich's works made him feel very collegiate, his ALLIANCE magazine really made us all feel special, his "Trivia: contest made us all think back a little bit and his obits, marriage, engagements, births and special announcements allowed all of us to keep in contacts with our classmates from the past. And even though I never say it to him, I am really proud of my little brother. I admit that when we were all in high school together and doing our "cool stuff", he was a 7 year old pain in the you know what, but I was stuck with him and many of you helped me put up with his "baby antics", but now he is 55 + and being inducted into the SPSVHS Hall of Fame with my Student Body President and I am as proud as anyone can be and want to make sure all of my Class of 57' classmates know it. If any of you can find the time to celebrate that evening (October 6, 2007 in Vallejo) to honor Leo, please make sure you clap for the little heavy set kid, with a mustache that idolized all of you guys 50 years ago....Thanks for hearing me out.....Terry (Richie's big Brother)

St. Vincent’s Class of 1957
50th Class Reunion
With an attendance of over 75 persons, the Class of 1957 held its 50th Class Reunion the weekend of June 9 and 10, 2007. The festivities included Mass at 5 PM with cocktails and dinner following at Eagle Vines Golf and Country Club in Napa. Sunday morning breakfast was attended by approximately 30 classmates and spouses followed by a picnic Sunday afternoon to complete the weekend celebration.
The highlight of the Saturday evening dinner was the attendance of “special” Guests of Honor, which included mentors (Religious priests, Sisters and Coaches) who have had a tremendous influence in the formation of the lives of the Class of 1957. Each of them spoke briefly to the Class.
The Guests of Honor were:
Reverend William Knapp- St. Basil’s Parish
Sister Mary Constance- Principal, St. Basil’s Grammar School
Sister Kathryn Steger O.P.
Sister Marion O.P.
Coaches Stan Buchanan and Al Endriss
Classmates:
Sister Anne Bertain O. P.
Sister Ramona Krisha O.P.
Rev. Leo LaBelle O.P. Stanford University was unable to attend
Comments on the weekend were “Wow, great time”, “best time ever”, “best Reunion ever”, “magnificent weekend”.
Sister Vincent's funeral is at 10:00 AM on Friday at St. Raphael's Church in San Rafael.
Leo
Hi Bill,
I can't tell you how sad I am to have missed the Reunion. The pictures have been great but very frightening. I am happy that people wore name tags. There are a few people I still don't recognize. I could not have made that trip. The antibiotics just killed me and I was already tired after the first two events in the morning and early afternoon. Then we had a very full Sunday as the second priest here moved on and all of the farewells were on Sunday. I began at 8:00 AM and didn't finish until 1:00 AM Had I attended the reunion I would have collapsed, I fear.
I got word yesterday that Sister Vincent was pretty close to the end. I made plans to go to see her on Thursday and got a call today that she died at 4:00 PM today. She was 93 on June 6th. She was still driving the "older sisters" to the doctor as recently as 2 weeks ago. I believe that she taught most of us who went on to be members of the Class of '57. I think they had 50 or more students in those days. I will let you know when I have information about the funeral. My GUESS is Saturday. I am hoping otherwise as I have two weddings that day.
Is there an email way to write a note to the class. I would love to do that if it is not too easy. My love to the family and to you.
Leo

Hi Bill ... thanks for the note. Will get it into the next issue of the Alumni newsletter ... which will most likely be in the Fall.
FYI, a few days ago the SV, SP and SPSV High School Hall of Fame Nominating Committee met to select the 2007 inductees and they elected Rev. Patrick "Leo" LaBelle OP, SV'57 for induction. He has been nominated virtually every year and turned us down a couple times because of time constraints on his schedule. This year when I called him, however, he said he would clear his calendar for that weekend (Saturday, 6 October 2007) and would be honored to join our Hall of Fame! I am really excited.
Maybe you can get a note out to your classmates via email ... I will be sending them an invite later this Summer. By the way, if you have any updated info (especially email addresses, etc.) for your class would love to get a hard copy so we can update our stuff too!
Hope all is well. Always have a smile on my face when I see an email from you!
Regards,
Rich
PS What's the scoop on the Class Cruise. How's that going? I haven't heard from Gary Anderson in a while???
