Garry Anderson and George Coppo have arranged for a class cruise to Alaska aboard Princess Cruises' Golden Princess.
map
Departing Seattle on Saturday, September 1, 2007, you'll sail Alaska's Inside Passage, visiting Juneau, Skagway, Tracy Arm, and Ketchikan, Alaska, and call at Victoria, British Columbia before returning to Seattle the following Satuday.
The Golden Princess was built in Italy in 2001 at a cost of $450 million. Sized at 109,000 gross registered tons and carrying up to 2,600 passengers, the ship is 911 feet long, has 18 decks, and a maximum speed of 24 knots.
The unique profile of the Golden Princess includes a distinctive "rear spoiler" which houses the Skywalkers Night Club. You reach the club by a moving sidewalk and will have an all-round view when you arrive. The ship offers three formal dining rooms, three state-of-the-art show lounges, a world-class art collection, a variety of pools, a nine-hole putting course, a kid's video game arcade, and more than 700 balcony staterooms. The ship offers "Personal Choice Dining," which allows passengers to choose between open- or assigned-seating dining.
The Golden Princess has been spending summers in the Mediterranean, then shifting to the Eastern Caribbean for the fall and winter. But in the spring of 2007 she will round the tip of South America and work her way up the Pacific coast. She will arrive in San Francisco* in April, make two cruises to Mexico, and then shift to Seattle. Starting in May 2007, the Golden Princess will offer weekly 7-day cruises to Alaska. (If you were wondering, she couldn't take the shortcut through the Panama Canal. Ships up to 101 feet wide can pass through the locks; the Golden Princess has a beam of 152 feet!)
* If you want to view the Golden Princess, she will be in San Francisco (from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day) on Thursday, April 12; Sunday, April 22; and Wednesday, May 2. Your webmaster visited San Francisco on April 22. For some photos of the Golden Princess taken that day, click here.
